Gundula’s research spans from wave transformation across fringing reefs to the exchange of water between reefs and the open ocean. She uses field and numerical experiments to study the physical processes important for the transport of nutrients, larvae and pollutants as well as for shoreline erosion in diverse coastal settings. Her current research interest aims to use the enhanced understanding of the physical environment to improve coastal management and ecosystem restoration in a changing climate.
Previous to her PhD research, Gundula worked as a researcher and consultant on real-time water quality forecasts as well as coastal risk reduction.
